Packing tips
A few minutes of planning saves space, money and broken plates.
Invest in good, sturdy boxes of similar sizes so they stack. Fill them fully but not too heavy, label every box and mark breakables FRAGILE.
Defrost fridges and freezers and leave the doors open. Drain washing machines and tie the hoses down.
Dismantle beds, wardrobes and tables. Keep screws and fittings together in a labelled box. Wrap mattresses and sofas in covers and store mattresses on their long end.
Wrap pictures, mirrors and breakables in bubble wrap. Pack TVs and stereos in similar-sized boxes with plenty of paper all round.
Drain fuel completely from mowers, strimmers and anything else with a tank before it goes into storage.
Never store anything wet: it causes mould. Keep the things you will need most often near the door.
Call the depot and talk to the family that runs it. No sales script, no hidden fees.
